Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 6 tablespoons of cold, unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 3/4 cup of cold buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon of honey (optional, for brushing)

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined.

Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to work the butter into the flour until it looks like coarse crumbs.

Create a well in the center of the flour-butter mixture, then pour in the cold buttermilk. Stir gently until the ingredients come together into a dough.

Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it lightly a few times. Flatten it into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.

Fold the dough into thirds (like folding a letter), then gently pat it out again.
