Crock Pot Whole Chicken

Let your slow cooker handle the heavy lifting with Crock Pot Whole Chicken. This recipe yields a juicy, delicious whole chicken that’s ideal for family meals and makes a great option for meal prepping.

Ingredients

Salt: 4 teaspoons (consider using 2 teaspoons based on recipe reviews)

Paprika: 2 teaspoons

Cayenne Pepper: 1 teaspoon

Onion Powder: 1 teaspoon

Thyme: 1 teaspoon

White Pepper: 1 teaspoon

Garlic Powder: 1/2 teaspoon

Black Pepper: 1/2 teaspoon

Roasting Chicken: 1 large (preferably with a pop-up timer)

Chopped Onion: 1 cup (optional)

Directions

Step 1: Mix all spices together in a small bowl.

Step 2: Prepare the chicken by removing any giblets and cleaning it.

Step 3: Apply the spice mixture evenly over the chicken.

Step 4: Place the seasoned chicken in a resealable plastic bag and refrigerate overnight. (If you’re short on time, this step can be skipped.)

Step 5: When ready to cook, put the chopped onion at the bottom of the crock pot.

Step 6: Add the chicken on top of the onion. No additional liquid is needed as the chicken will produce its own juices.

Step 7: Cook on low for 4 to 8 hours.

Note: A pop-up timer is highly recommended because crock pots vary in cooking times; this recipe usually takes 4-5 hours in my crock pot. For a twist, you can skip the onion and stuff a quartered lemon or two into the chicken cavity instead.
